Gravity Wave Observations by the Mars Science Laboratory REMS Pressure Sensor and Comparison With Mesoscale Atmospheric Modeling With MarsWRF

Surface pressure measurements on Mars have revealed a wide variety of atmospheric phenomena. The Science Laboratory Rover Environmental Monitoring Station sensor data set is now the longest duration record surface Mars. We use first 2580 Martian sols, nearly 4 years, to identify waves with periods tens minutes hours using wavelet analysis residual after tidal harmonics are removed. find these clear diurnal cycle strongest activity in early morning and late evening seasonal second half martian year (Ls = 180–360°). such entire mission occurred during Year 34 global dust storm. Comparable identified modeling MarsWRF general circulation model “nested” high spatial resolution mode. With support modeling, we best fit expected properties inertia-gravity horizontal wavelengths O(100s) km.
